Capsule Weekly glossary
Capsule wardrobe
A small set of interchangeable clothing where every top pairs with every bottom, typically 25-40 pieces per season.
Interchangeability
The property that any two pieces in a wardrobe can be worn together; the core metric of capsule design.
Outfit formula
A repeatable combination template (e.g. knit + trouser + loafer + structured layer) that produces outfits without new decisions.
Cost per wear
Purchase price divided by times worn; the standard way to compare a $200 coat worn 100 times against a $60 one worn twice.
Palette lock
Restricting a wardrobe to a fixed set of colors (usually two neutrals, one mid-tone, one accent) so nothing clashes.
One-for-one replacement
The maintenance rule that a new piece enters the capsule only when an old one in the same slot leaves.
